Education and Training

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the states of New York (#016481) and New Jersey (#35SI00563700). I have two Bachelor degrees in Psychology, one from Punjab University in India (with Honors) and the second from Columbia University in New York City. I have a Master’s and a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford in Connecticut, which is a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

I have 18+ years of clinical experience providing psychological interventions as a Licensed Psychologist, and additional prior years of training that included an APA-accredited year-long internship as well as various externships. I am a member of the APA. My experience includes working with children, teens, and adults from various cultural, racial, and economic backgrounds. I have provided psychotherapy and psychological interventions in multiple treatment settings, which include inpatient units in hospitals, mobile crisis teams, outpatient clinics, school-based therapeutic programs, college counseling centers, and private practice. I also have some administrative leadership experience, although have - with conscious intent - moved away from this career trajectory; working directly with clients/patients ultimately offers me the maximum personal and professional harmony.

I have considerable experience providing culturally sensitive care. Additionally, I am fluent in the South Asian languages of Hindi and Punjabi.

I nurture my professional growth and development on an ongoing basis through continuing education activities, by actively seeking training and opportunities for intellectual dialogue in emerging areas of mental health care, and via consultation with colleagues, as necessary. I firmly believe that the only way to stay competent is to be a life-long learner, which includes learning from all human beings!
