My Practice Philosophy

My approach to psychotherapy stems from a belief that all human beings have the capability of reaching their full potential. To do so, it is often helpful to have supportive people in one’s life, as well as a willingness to utilize the two key ingredients needed to reach any life goal – (putting in the) time and effort.

That being said, my interpersonal style is warm, accepting, honest, genuine, curious, and respectful. My therapy style is highly interactive during sessions, and we collaboratively journey together and problem-solve along the way. I use a strength-based approach in my clinical work that focuses on building resiliency, gaining insight, and creating a sense of balance in one’s life. When appropriate, I incorporate an existential perspective and use therapeutic humor to serve as counter-balances to the heaviness of the therapy work. My intention is to celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of the human spirit via a practice philosophy that recognizes, and respects, diversity in all its forms and expressions. I do firmly believe that we are all members of a shared humanity and a shared planet, and we do best when we work together!

My psychotherapy interventions are informed by various theoretical perspectives, such as psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral theory, positive psychology, existential psychology, and trauma-based perspectives. In my practice, I address a variety of issues related to emotional health and general wellbeing. Some examples of these are depression, anxiety, trauma (including, coping with a childhood history of abuse), stress (social, job, parenting, college, relationships, etc.), adjustment to changing or unchangeable life circumstances, grief and loss, work-life balance, and struggles related to one’s own or family’s immigrant experience. I place a high value on cultural sensitivity and authenticity, and adopt a position of cultural humility in my work. My ultimate intent is to help empower you to effectively manage your symptoms, cope with your life stressors, and regain your life-balance.

I truly believe that striving to become a better version of one’s current self is time and effort well spent.
